3LW on 3LW Meet Adrienne, Kiely and Naturi. How did you get together? Adrienne: We actually auditioned for the group. Kiely's mum actually put us together, for our production company, Teaspoons. We were hand-picked, did our demos and then did a showcase for Tommy Mottola [the head of Sony] and that's how we got our record deal. Kiely: I was really nervous. He was sitting right in front of us and we were all up in his face just dancing and singing, but it was a lot of fun. At the end of the showcase we went up to him and we were like, 'Did you like it?' and he said, 'No, I didn't like it.' And we got all nervous and he said, 'We LOVED it!' I was like, 'Aaaagh!' Real happy. Did you know each other before the group? Adrienne: No, we didn't know each other. But the chemistry that was like... you could see it straight away. We got along so well. The way our voices blend in and everything, you could always see we were perfect for a group and they knew and just put us together. What do you bring to the group? Adrienne: I would say we each have our own things but I would say I bring more of a Latin flavour, I'm Puerto Rican and Ecuadorian, so I guess I bring that Latin flavour to the stage. Kiely: I guess I bring more of the hip hop part to the group. I'm the rapper of the group so I bring the rapping part and I bring the energy. Naturi: I bring more of the r'n'b flavour, that's my whole thing. Like soulful music, a more r'n'b, soulful flavour to the group. It's an unusual mix. Naturi: We have a blend 'cause we're all so different in our styles of music. We bring Latin, hip hop, pop, r'n'b and that's what makes us so different from other girl groups. Kiely: Now music is getting so worldly and diverse you can't really place any category on our music. Does that mean you're always arguing over control of the CD player in hotel rooms? Kiely: No, we all have our own CD players. Adrienne's listening to her Spanish music, Naturi's listening to her Whitney Houston. Naturi: We all respect each other's musical styles and stuff because we respect that we all bring something to the group so I respect her Latin music, I even try to learn some of her Spanish songs. Adrienne: It's like we've learned from each other and we respect each other's talents and stuff. So what about boyfriends? Naturi: We don't really have a lot of time for boyfriends, so we're really trying to concentrate on our careers, we're really focussed. When we get all our music done, we'll be all mellow and do the Britney and Justin thing. Kiely: We saw them when they were at the MTV Music Awards together and we were like, 'There they are! Go Britney, go Justin!' Do you think you would be friends if you weren't in this group together? Naturi: If we were in school, we probably wouldn't know each other but if we gave each other a try - you know what - I think we would wind up being the best of friends. Kiely: It's like we come from completely different worlds. Me and Naturi lived in the same state but the state's really small so it's like the same city! Adrienne: They're from New Jersey. Kiely: But our sense of humour blends so perfectly. We make each other laugh no matter what. Everything is funny to us, you know. So what drives you nuts about each other? Adrienne: I have a good one to say. This gets me crazy. When we're on airplanes we usually sit the three of us. One day we were on a flight back from North Carolina and there was so much turbulence and I'm a little shaky on planes. These two are hysterical, laughing. I'm having a heart-attack, holding the arms of my chair, I'm like, 'Oh, my god, I'm going to die, I'm going to die.' Kiely: I have one for Naturi. She my girl and everything but she's just so smart. You'll say something incorrect grammatically and she'll correct you! In the middle of the car I'll be like, 'That don't matter'. 'Doesn't matter.' And I'll be like, 'Oh, she's so smart.' She went to Catholic school. And Adrien flips her hair! Adrienne: It's the worst. They hate it. Naturi: I was going to say that flipping the hair thing but she took it from me. 'Cause that does irk me a little. You know what bugs me, when I first moved in with them and we first started living together it was summertime but for some reason I don't like to be cold and every night Adrienne would just turn on the fan like full blast and I would be like [coughs] 'My throat is getting all dried out.' I'm like 'My vocals!' I am such a diva! |
